MONTREAL – A 68-year-old Quebec woman was slightly injured Wednesday night when she opened her roadside mailbox and something exploded.
Police say it happened at about 7 in the Senneville suburb at the western end of the Island of Montreal.
The woman suffered minor injuries to her upper body and did not need to be taken to hospital.
Police spokesman Benoit Boisselle says the cause of the explosion is not yet known and the investigation has been handed over to the arson squad.
A police tactical squad was sent to the scene with a robot to destroy the explosive object and two police dogs were deployed to ensure no other explosive objects were present.
The unidentified woman’s residence was not damaged.
