Tax evaders’ compound for sale again, believed to be safe
PLAINFIELD, N.H. – A 100-acre New Hampshire compound at the centre of a 2007 armed standoff with federal agents is for up for sale again nine months after it was sold at auction.
The auction followed a two-year effort to sell the compound and a dental office belonging to tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown. Authorities couldn’t guarantee the compound wasn’t booby trapped. A real estate agent believes it’s safe.
The Browns became anti-government celebrities when they held federal agents at bay after they were convicted of tax evasion and refused to surrender.
James Hollander paid $205,000 for the Plainfield compound and $415,000 for the Lebanon office. The Valley News reports (http://bit.ly/2a7qoGX) Hollander is asking $329,000 for the compound. The office was put under contract by a prospective buyer for an undisclosed price.
