VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Whitecaps have added American midfielder Ricardo Clark to their coaching ranks.
The ‘Caps announced Thursday that the former Houston Dynamo player has been hired as an assistant coach with the first team.
Clark previously coached in Dynamo’s academy and with the U.S. U-20 team.
The 38-year-old native of Atlanta played for 17 years, winning MLS Cups with Houston in 2006 and 2007, and being named an MLS all-star four times.
He also played with Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt and Norway’s Stabaeck, and made 34 appearances for the U.S. men’s national team, scoring three goals.
Whitecaps coach Marc Dos Santos says in a release that the club wanted to bring in someone who had experience both in MLS and overseas, as well as a passion for coaching and working with young players.
The ‘Caps will begin the 2021 season in Sandy, Utah, hosting the Portland Timbers on April 18.
