Martin Short to return for second stint as host of the Canadian Screen Awards

TORONTO – Canuck comic Martin Short will be back to host the Canadian Screen Awards.

CBC says the stage, film and TV star will once again be presiding over Canada’s annual film and television bash, after delivering a well-received performance at last year’s inaugural ceremony.

Short says in a statement that he’s thrilled to helm the gala, but jokes that he’s actually compelled by “a contractual obligation.”

The awards celebrate the best in homegrown film, television and digital media.

Last year, an off-the-wall Short treated audiences to a musical opening number and a visit from his popular alter ego Ed Grimley.

The gala is set to air on CBC-TV on March 9, 2014 from Toronto.

“I’m thrilled to be back hosting the Canadian Screen Awards,” Short said Monday in a statement.

“Actually it’s more than a thrill, it’s a contractual obligation.”
