Firefighter injured as crews fought fire at Vancouver apartment building

VANCOUVER – A firefighter was treated for undisclosed injuries Thursday as crews battled a fire at an apartment building in Vancouver’s west end.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service said the four-alarm fire was “stubborn” and they fought it under “challenging conditions.”

The department said the firefighter was being treated by paramedics.

Photographs released by the department on its Twitter account showed firefighters at a five-storey brick building with smoke coming from the roof. One of the photos showed two ladders from fire trucks extended onto the roof of the building.

The fire department said several suites in the building were badly damaged.

Roads were blocked off in the area of the fire on the edge of the downtown core at Thurlow and Nelson streets.
