Wintry blast hits B.C.’s southeastern Kootenay region, coastal areas

VANCOUVER – Bundle up. It’s going to be a cold one.

Environment Canada has forecasted bone-chilling temperatures to persist throughout parts of British Columbia today and tomorrow.

A wind chill warning has been issued for the southeastern Kootenay region, where temperatures are expected to dip down to -35 degrees C.

Environment Canada also says the arctic ridge of high pressure will strengthen as it moves through the B.C. Interior.

The cold front is expected to cause strong winds in the province’s north and central coasts, and areas such as the Fraser Valley and the Howe Sound region can expect wind chill values near -20 degrees C.

BC Hydro says it expects demand for electricity to stay high this week as temperatures plummet across the province.
