Brazil suspect in sex crime on bus arrested in new incident

SAO PAULO – Police in Brazil say a man who was arrested this week for allegedly ejaculating on a woman on a public bus and then quickly freed has been detained again in a similar incident.

Police inspector Rogerio Nader tells reporters that the man was arrested Saturday in Sao Paulo near the same avenue where he was detained Tuesday. He is suspected of trying to rub his penis against a woman’s arm on a bus, and authorities plan to press a sex-crime charge.

A judge’s decision to rule the previous incident a misdemeanour and release him after 24 hours caused an outcry in the country, where gender violence is prevalent.

UOL news reported that he had been detained at least 16 times since 2009 for similar crimes, including five times this year.
