Three people and their pet left homeless after Rutland house fire

KELOWNA – Firefighters had to enter a burning house twice today when they couldn't find one of the occupants.

Kelowna Fire crews were called to a home on Keithly Road in Rutland shortly after noon today, March 29. A media release from platoon captain Tim Light says the first arriving units encountered heavy smoke and flames at the rear of the home.

“Fire crews entered the structure and did a search as there was one person unaccounted for,” Light says in the release. “A secondary search was done and again no one was found.”

The fire was extinguished quickly and damage contained to the rear of the structure’s lower floor. The rest of the structure was damaged by smoke.

Investigators have not released the cause of the fire but Emergency Social Services was called for three residents and one pet who will not be able to return home today.
