Crews in home stretch of restoring power to New Brunswickers after ice storm
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Nearly all New Brunswickers left in the dark after an ice storm more than a week ago have had their power restored.
NB Power says fewer than 100 customers remain without electricity in St. Stephen, in the southern part of the province.
The utility says it hopes to have most customers reconnected today.
At one point, about 50,000 NB Power customers were without electricity as ice-laden trees snapped and pulled down power lines across the province.
The Canadian Red Cross says their warming centres and shelters have all closed as there is no longer a demand for them.
Meanwhile, NB Power says more than 1,000 customers have lost power in the Moncton, Tracadie, Grand Falls and Sackville areas.
It hopes to have those customers reconnected today.
