KAMLOOPS – More than 100 tournaments take place in Kamloops every year and this past weekend a few hundred teens in the under-16 national soccer championships spent their Thanksgiving weekend in the Tournament Capital competing for the national title.
Crews prepared the fields in advance, painting fresh lines and putting up new covered benches for the teams. Local soccer representatives ensured the 22 visiting teams had space to practice, buses to get them where they needed to go, referees to call the games and enough volunteers to keep things running smoothly.
The games were all at McArthur Park, but were spread out across four different fields with several other fields were used for practices.
Surrey United, representing B.C. For the boys side of the tournament, took home gold while the Brampton Brams United Bandits of Ontario took home gold on the girls side.
