Gas prices stable going into holiday weekend

TRENTON, N.J. – Gas prices in New Jersey and around the nation have remained stable going into the Labor Day weekend and the end of the summer driving season.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas Friday in New Jersey was $2.86, unchanged from last week. Motorists were paying $2.46 for gas in New Jersey at this time last year.

The national average gas price Friday was $2.84 a gallon, also unchanged from last week. The national average a year ago was $2.45 a gallon.

Analysts say cheaper-to-produce gasoline and relatively stable crude oil prices combined with an anticipated drop in demand should mean lower prices in the coming weeks.
