WINNIPEG – Coach Mike O’Shea eliminated any doubt Friday and proclaimed that Drew Willy will be the new starting quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Bombers have signed the former Saskatchewan Roughriders backup and say he won’t have to compete for the job in training camp.
They have two other quarterbacks on their roster — Max Hall and Justin Goltz.
Willy has started only four games but O’Shea says he believes his time has come.
And general manager Kyle Walters suggested Willy wasn’t third on their list.
The Bombers lost a bidding war this week with Ottawa for Henry Burris and also approached former Toronto backup Zach Collaros who signed with Hamilton but Walters says the sequence of events was out of their control.
