Former pediatrican accused of waterboarding girl faces cross-examination
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Delaware prosecutors are set to begin their cross-examination of a former pediatrician accused of waterboarding his longtime companion’s daughter by holding the girl’s head under a faucet.
Sixty-year-old Melvin Morse will resume testifying Tuesday in his trial on endangerment and assault charges.
Morse testified Monday that he and the girl’s mother became exasperated trying to wash the girl’s hair after she started taking showers instead of baths when she was about 8 years old.
The girl, now 12, and her mother have said Morse used hair-washing as a threat or punishment when she misbehaved.
Morse could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
Morse, who has researched near-death experiences involving children, has denied police claims that he may have been experimenting on the girl.
