KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia – Calgary’s Alex Gough wasn’t able to end Canada’s medal drought in Olympic luge but she did post the country’s best-ever result with a fourth-place finish Tuesday in Sochi.
Gough finished with a four-run time of three minutes 21.578 seconds.
No Canadian has ever finished better in the sport that is dominated by Europeans.
Natalie Geisenberger of Germany — known as the Queen of Luge — won the gold in 3:19.768 while her teammate Tatjana Huefner was second in 3:20.907.
American Erin Hamlin was the surprise bronze medallist in 3:21.145.
Kimberley McRae of Calgary was fifth while Arianne Jones of Calgary 13th.
