Canadian team finishes fourth in luge relay event at Sochi Olympics
KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia – It was three close calls but no Olympic medal for Canadian lugers at the Sochi Olympics.
Alex Gough, Samuel Edney, Tristan Walker and Justin Snith, just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish Thursday in the first ever Olympic luge relay event.
It was Canada’s third fourth-place finish of the Games in luge competition. Calgary’s Gough finished fourth in the women’s event, while Walker, of Cochrane, Alta., and Calgary’s Snith were fourth in doubles.
Edney, also from Calgary, was 11th in the men’s event.
Canada will now have to wait four years for another shot at its first-ever luge medal.
Canada came into the Olympics as a medal hopeful in the relay, winning silver at the 2013 world championships and bronze in 2012.
Germany won to complete its golden sweep of luge events in Sochi, while Russia finished second and Latvia third.
