Red Sox looking ahead to defending World Series championship rather than resting on laurels
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Boston Red Sox are determined to leave their championship season behind and concentrate on 2014.
Pitchers and catchers were due to report Saturday and almost all had arrived by early afternoon. Their first formal workout is Monday.
Manager John Farrell says it’s critical for the team to get back to the mindset of the first day of spring training last year and not to Game 6 of the World Series. The Red Sox won the Series in six games over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Starting pitcher Jake Peavy says last year was a dream come true for him, but now it’s a new year. He says players have been texting each other, telling them to turn the page to a new season in which they haven’t accomplished anything.
