UPDATE: No foul play suspected in death of Kelowna man

KELOWNA – The death of a Kelowna man reported missing in the James Lake area east of Kelowna is not suspicious.

The 40-year-old man was reported missing on Saturday night. Central Okanagan Search and Rescue volunteers found the man’s body early Sunday morning.

The man had gone into the bush to cut firewood on Saturday and was expected back home at 3 p.m. He wasn’t reported missing until almost 9 p.m.

“If your loved one is overdue, don't delay in calling your local police,” Cst. Kris Clark said. “Early activation and intervention by Search and Rescue personnel could prevent tragedy.”

The RCMP and the B.C. Coroner are investigating.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.

KELOWNA – RCMP and the B.C. Coroner are investigating after a missing man in the James Lake area east of Kelowna was found dead early Sunday morning.

The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue team got the call just before 1 a.m. to look for a missing man. He had left Saturday morning to collect firewood.

With 6 volunteers, two truck and 4 ATV’s set out for the area. CASARA, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, also sent a plane to search the remote region.

“After a short but extensive search, the male’s vehicle was located on a side road,” according to SAR volunteer Duane Tresnich. “The mail was found deceased a short distance away.”

The identity of the dead man and how he died aren’t known at this time.

No word if foul play was involved.

Kelowna RCMP have yet to release any information about the incident.
