The Calgary Hitmen defeated the Kelowna Rockets 2-1 on Tuesday in a tight Western Hockey League game at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

Hitmen goalie Chis Driedger stopped 38 of 39 shots he faced and the Hitmen scored a late third period goal to snap a 1-1 tie and earn the win.

Hitmen winger Zane Jones scored the go-ahead goal with just 65 seconds left in regulation, propelling the Calgary squad to victory.

After Calgary took a 1-0 lead after the first period, the Rockets took over, outshooting the Hitmen 18-4 in the period. They were rewarded when Justin Kirkland broke in on a breakaway, scoring to tie the game 1-1.

Kelowna poured on the pressure in the final frame but couldn't beat Driedger, who was named first star.

The Rockets outshot Calgary 39-21 but suffered just its second loss in regulation this season.

The Rockets (7-2-0-2) now head out on the road, for four straight games, beginning this weekend with two games in Victoria, to face the Royals (9-6-0-0).

The Rockets next home game is Nov. 6 against Red Deer.
