Elevator problems close Washington Monument

WASHINGTON – Officials say the Washington Monument will be closed until at least Tuesday due to elevator problems.

The National Park Service says in a statement that a mechanical failure occurred Saturday morning before the monument opened.

It says that no visitors were in the monument at the time and no staff members were affected.

The park service says the re-open date will depend on the availability of parts.
