Silver collector coin honours literary icon Alice Munro’s Nobel Prize win

VICTORIA – The Royal Canadian Mint has released a limited-edition silver coin honouring Nobel Prize-winning author Alice Munro.
The $5-coin, unveiled at a ceremony at the Greater Victoria Public Library, features an open book containing passage’s from Munro’s “The View from Castle Rock,” as the outline of a woman emerges from a pen that is held to the page.
Only 7,500 of the coins will be minted, and they can be purchased for $69.95 each.
The mint is also donating $10,000 to the Writers’ Trust of Canada in Munro’s name.
Munro, most well known for her short stories, won the Nobel Prize in Literature last year.
She is the first Canadian woman to win the distinction.
