Books by Susan Delacourt, Paul Wells make shortlist for John W. Dafoe Book Prize
TORONTO – Books written by Canadian journalists and historians are among those shortlisted for the John W. Dafoe Book Prize
A field of 46 entries was whittled down to five submissions for the $10,000 award which memorializes Canadian editor John Wesley Dafoe.
The short list includes Toronto Star senior political writer Susan Delacourt for her book “Shopping for Votes: How Politicians Choose Us and We Choose Them,” and Maclean’s political editor Paul Wells for “The Longer I’m Prime Minister: Stephen Harper and Canada, 2006 -.”
“The Canadian Rangers: A Living History”by P. Whitney Lackenbauer and “One Day in August: The Untold Story Behind Canada’s Tragedy at Dieppe” by fellow historian David O’Keefe are also among the finalists.
“The Once and Future Great Lakes Country: An Ecological History” by John L. Riley rounds out the list.
The winner will be named later in the spring and collect the award at the J.W. Dafoe Foundation’s Annual Book Prize Dinner in May.
