Amaya and William Hill PLC in ongoing discussions about potential merger

MONTREAL – Canadian online gaming company Amaya Inc. and British bookmaker William Hill PLC have announced they are in discussions regarding a potential merger.

Amaya (TSX:AYA) said it has been reviewing its strategic alternatives since February 2016.

Over recent months, William Hill said it has been evaluating options to accelerate its strategy of increasing diversification by growing its digital and international businesses.

Amaya and William Hill PLC jointly said the potential merger would be consistent with both companies strategic objectives to create a clear international leader across sports betting, poker and casino.

The companies said discussions are ongoing and there can be no certainty that an agreement will be reached.
