KAMLOOPS – After an exchange of gunfire with police one man is dead in Kamloops.

Yesterday Sept. 14, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of a suspicious and possibly impaired man last seen near a camper trailer approximately three kilometres past the Rose Hill Subdivision.

A media release says police attended the location and there was a reported exchange of gun fire.

The area was immediately cordoned off and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was requested to attend along with other support units.

Police can confirm that a man has since been found deceased at the scene.

No officers, nor any other members of the public were injured.

The scene and any evidence have been secured while the Independent Investigation Office of B.C. have been notified and are deploying to the scene. Independent Investigations Office of B.C. will conduct the investigation into the police-involved shooting to see if there is any link between police actions and the man's death.

As the matter is now under investigation by the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., no further information will be released by police. Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact the Iindependent Investigations Office at 1-855-446-8477.
