RCMP officer faces fraud charges related to use of government credit cards

VICTORIA – RCMP in Victoria say a colleague has been charged for allegedly using government credit cards improperly.

Cpl. Tony Spink of the special investigations unit has been charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000 related to alleged use of the cards while off duty.

Insp. Blair Staples of E-Division says the investigation into Spink was launched after questionable charges appeared on the cards.

Mounties say Spink has been suspended with pay but was served Friday with a recommendation to stop pay and allowances.

Police say there is now an internal code of conduct investigation underway.

Spink is expected to appear in a Victoria court Aug. 1.
