Deaths reported in Ala., Miss., from massive severe weather system blowing through the South

ATHENS, Ala. – Officials say up to seven deaths are being reported from a severe weather system blowing through the South.

City of Athens, Ala., spokeswoman Holly Hollman says Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakeley has reported two deaths at a mobile home park west of that northern Alabama city on Monday.

She says Blakeley was in a meeting and couldn’t come to the phone to provide details.

Also, Limestone County Commissioner Bill Latimer tells The Associated Press that four people are dead in his district southeast of Athens. He says he has not been to the scene and was told about the deaths by a county foreman.

In Mississippi, Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine Green confirms a woman died Monday when her car either hydroplaned or blew off a road during the storm in Verona, south of Tupelo.
