Thai PM testifies in court over abuse of power allegations that could lead to her removal
BANGKOK – Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has taken the stand in a crucial court case that is one of several legal challenges which could remove her from office.
Yingluck’s supporters accuse the courts of trying to topple her through unfair use of the legal system after six months of anti-government protests failed to unseat her.
Yingluck appeared at the Consitutional Court on Tuesday with her legal team to defend herself against abuse of power accusations lodged by anti-government senators.
She is accused of abusing her authority by transferring her National Securtity Council chief in 2011 to another position. Critics say the transfer was to benefit her ruling party and violated the constitution.
A ruling is not expected until a later date.
