Ukrainian Cup final moved because of unrest in east and may be postponed
The Ukrainian Cup final on May 15 has been moved from Kharkiv in the volatile east for safety reasons and may be postponed.
Kharkiv has been the site of large anti-government protests, and the mayor was wounded in a shooting last month. The Ukrainian soccer federation says Tuesday another host city will be chosen.
Federation spokesman Pavel Ternovoi tells The Associated Press the situation in the city is “unstable” and Kharkiv officials are “not able to completely guarantee safety.”
The semifinals are Wednesday and the spokesman says there is “no 100 per cent guarantee” the date of the final will be kept.
