B.C. man charged with attempted murder over stabbing of teen girl
NANAIMO, B.C. – Charges of attempted murder have been laid against a Nanaimo, B.C., man, following a stabbing attack on a 16-year-old girl.
Several people called 911 about the attack on Tuesday morning, and police say one caller said he heard a female yelling for help and saw a male running away.
Police say they attended the scene and found a female in distress, suffering from stab wounds and bleeding, and she was taken to hospital.
A tracking dog was called in, and police say a man was arrested a short distance away from the girl.
Police say the girl underwent emergency surgery and is expected to remain in hospital for several days.
Arshil Azim Parekh appeared before a provincial court judge Wednesday and has been remanded into custody with a next court appearance set for May 20.
