Snow a possibility in Okanagan this week

OKANAGAN – Clouds and showers will give way to clearing skies through the middle of the week in the Okanagan, but cooling temperatures may increase the chance of snow by Friday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald says the week will start with a couple of days above seasonal norms, but a weather shift to a northwest pattern will see temperatures in the valley begin dropping on Wednesday with snow a possibility on Friday.

Today, Nov. 5, and tomorrow are expected to be mainly cloudy with the possibility of a thunderstorm in northern parts of the Okanagan this afternoon.

There’s less of a chance of rain in Penticton today, with only a 40 per cent chance and a 30 per cent chance tomorrow.

Showers are more of a likelihood in Kelowna and Vernon, with a 70 per cent possibility today, diminishing to 60 per cent tomorrow.

Temperatures of 10 Celsius and 8 C are expected for daytime highs, with Tuesday’s low temperature expected to dip to -1 C.

A clearing trend will see sunny skies on Wednesday and Thursday, but daytime highs will stay in the single digits, at 4 C Wednesday and a high of only 2 C on Thursday.

It will only reach 3 C on Friday as well, but a new system crossing the region will bring with it a 30 per cent chance of rain or snow to the city as the weekend approaches.

Normal highs for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of about 5 C and lows around -1 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
