Kelowna Chiefs mascot gets a name
KELOWNA – Rutland’s very own Kelowna Chiefs are excited to announce the newest member of the team.
Joining the Chiefs this season is Flip the Eagle, our new mascot.
Flip was officially unveiled earlier this season but it was only this past weekend that a name was finally chosen for the black and red eagle.
His job at Rutland Arena is no different than any other mascot, to pump up the crowd with his tomahawk and drum props plus cheer on the Chiefs.
Flip’s name was chosen by Kelowna Chiefs fans, who either voted online or at various home games.
Since the official announcement of Flip at Friday’s victory over Beaver Valley, support has been rolling in from the local community.
“We’ve received compliments from a local organization that our team heavily supports,” says Kelowna Chiefs GM Grant Sheridan. “They like the simplicity of the name for young children within their organization.”
Flip Flop Bookstore, a new business in the Rutland neighbourhood is pleased to come on board as a sponsor of Flip.
Besides his on-ice antics, part of Flip’s job will also be Building a Stronger Community, just like every Kelowna Chiefs player strives to do as part of the team.
Watch for both Flip and Kelowna Chiefs players at numerous events in our community including food bank fundraisers, playing hockey with the kids at the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club and Wendy’s Dreamlift.
