Lakeshore Road project nears completion

KELOWNA – Around a dozen residents and business owners joined Kelowna mayor Walter Gray at the north end of the nearly completed Mission Creek Bridge Friday afternoon for an update on the $11 million Lakeshore Road project.

Upgrades to the busy tourist and commuter section of Lakeshore Road between Richter Street and Barnaby Road began in May and project manager Purvez Irani says it was not without its challenges.

“I found this more challenging than Bernard Avenue,” he says. “There’s a bridge involved and you have a very narrow window to build a large structure. It was very technically challenging.”

The project, which will be finished by the end of the month on time and on budget, features stamped concrete medians as well as light standards and landscaping consistent with the rest of Lakeshore Road.

The bridge sees around 12,000 vehicles cross every day.
