LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Los Angeles Fire Department reports a ruptured oil pipe has spilled about 50,000 gallons (225,000 litres) of crude oil onto streets.

According to a Fire Department release, the leak from a 20-inch (50-cms) pipe was reported just after midnight local time and the oil line was remotely shut off. No injuries were reported.

Police say oil spilled over approximately half a mile (800 metres) and is knee-high in some areas. A handful of commercial businesses are affected.
