British queen’s 92-year-old husband, Prince Philip, jokes after medical procedure on hand

LONDON – Buckingham Palace says Prince Philip has had a minor medical procedure on his right hand.

The 92-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II was photographed with a bandaged hand as he opened a family planning clinic Wednesday.

The palace said the unspecified procedure was carried out Tuesday morning, and Philip was continuing with all planned engagements.

The prince — famous for his off-colour quips — appeared in good spirits. He won laughs as he joked to clinic staff: “At least you are all legitimate.”

The prince has a busy schedule of royal duties, but has reduced engagements and overseas travel alongside the 88-year-old queen.

He had exploratory abdominal surgery in June 2013, and previously was hospitalized with heart and bladder problems.
