Delneri replaces Iachini as Udinese coach

UDINE, Italy – Udinese has brought former player Luigi Delneri back to the Serie A club after 36 years to replace Giuseppe Iachini as coach.

The Italian club confirmed Delneri’s appointment on Monday, the day after Iachini was fired, and announced he has signed a one-year contract with the option for a second season.

Delneri, who played for Udinese in 1978-80, has previously coached Roma and Juventus in a lengthy managerial career.

The 66-year-old took charge of Hellas Verona last December, but was fired after being unable to prevent its relegation from the Italian top flight.

Udinese is just one point above the relegation zone after losing four of its seven matches this season. It was booed off the pitch following a 3-0 loss at home to Lazio on Saturday.
