
Oil Kings edge Foreurs 4-3 in triple overtime to reach Memorial Cup final
LONDON, Ont. – The Edmonton Oil Kings advance to the Memorial Cup final with a 4-3 triple overtime win over the Val-d’Or Foreurs.
The Oil Kings will meet the unbeaten Guelph Storm in Sunday’s championship game.
Curtis Lazar scored the semifinal winner after 102 minutes 42 seconds of play, which made it the longest game in Memorial Cup history.
Mads Eller, Mitch Moroz and Edgars Kulda also scored for Edmonton. Goalie Tristan Jarry stopped 46 for the Western Hockey League champions.
Guillaume Gelinas, Phil Pietroniro and Randy Gazzola replied for the Foreurs. Antoine Bibeau made 50 saves in the loss.
Edmonton will play in its first Memorial Cup final since 1971 when they lost to the Quebec Remparts.
