Man presumed drowned in Ottawa River boating accident

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Police Service is investigating a possible drowning.

They say two men in their twenties were boating on the Ottawa River near Britannia Beach, yesterday afternoon when they were swept into the Deschenes Rapids where their inflatable dinghy capsized.

One of the men was rescued by members of the Gatineau Police Service, but the other remains missing and is presumed to have drowned.

The Ottawa Police Service Marine Dive and Trail Unit along with the Ottawa Fire Department`s Water Rescue Unit are all involved in the search for the missing man.

The names of the two men are being withheld at this time.
