Large landslide in southeast B.C. involves home, no word on injuries
NELSON, B.C. – A large landslide in a remote area of southeastern B.C. has damaged one home, but it’s unclear if anyone has been injured.
Bill Macpherson, a public information officer with Central Kootenay Regional District, says the slide happened near the community of Johnson’s Landing, about 70 kilometres north of Nelson, B.C.
Macpherson says he doesn’t yet know if anyone was inside the home when the slide came down.
He says little is known about what may have caused the earth to shift.
RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says police have sent a helicopter to the slide site.
An emergency operations centre is being set up in the city of Nelson.
