Canada falls well short against U.S. at Women’s Water Polo World Cup

SURGUT, Russia – Canada settled for second in Pool B at the FINA Women’s Water Polo World Cup after a 17-3 loss to the United States on Thursday.

The Americans outscored the Canadians 9-2 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Emma Wright of Lindsay, Ont., had two goals for Canada (2-1), while Krystina Alogbo of Montreal added a single.

Canada will face Australia in a quarterfinal on Friday.

The FINA World Cup takes place every non-Olympic year between world championships and serves as a qualifier the for the 2019 world championship in South Korea.
