Cold snap on the way
THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – As heavy snow continues to fall in parts of the region Wednesday and city crews work to keep up with the melt as temperatures move several degrees above seasonal normals we are being warned a cold snap is on the way.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning a ‘drastic cold snap’ will occur across the Interior Thursday and Friday. The warning covers most of the Interior including the entire Okanagan, Shuswap and South Thompson areas.
The cold weather will flow from the Central Interior, where a heavy snowfall warning remains in place, to the Southwest Interior Thursday night or Friday morning.
The Arctic air will also bring gusty winds and temperatures at least 10 degrees below seasonal normals of about 2 Celsius. In the more southern parts of the region where milder air is causing snow melt we can expect to see flash freezing that will result in icy and slippery roads throughout the Southern Interior Thursday night.
The below seasonal temperatures will last into next week.
