Comeback Kings confident playing with series lead in Stanley Cup final

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Up two games to none on the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup final, the Los Angeles Kings know there’s plenty to fix before taking the ice at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

Namely, they need to stop falling behind by two goals. In two victories to start the series, the Kings have not led for a single second of play and with their double-overtime heroics in Game 2 completed their fourth multi-goal comeback of these playoffs.

Winger Justin Williams said he and his teammates aren’t proud of their starts, but for a core that’s still in tact from the 2012 Cup champion team, falling behind simply isn’t a deterrent. If the Kings erase one more multi-goal deficit and win, they’ll tie the 1987 Philadelphia Flyers for the most in one playoff season.

But going into Game 3, the bigger question might be how Los Angeles deals with having a series lead to play with. In the Pacific Division final against the Anaheim Ducks, the Kings took a 2-0 lead and then proceeded to lose three in a row before bouncing back to win Games 6 and 7.

Experience is on the Kings’ side, however, after the 2012 team led every series at least 2-0 on the way to the franchise’s first championship.

Williams believes that helps not only in this series but game-to-game because this group has been through so much in the past few years that nothing is a brand-new situation.
