NYC’s Frick museum announces expansion and renovation project
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Frick Collection plans to expand and renovate its historic New York City mansion museum.
The project includes construction of a six-story wing on East 70th Street.
The Frick says the design will be consistent with the style and height of the 1913-1914 mansion and 1935 expansions.
The addition will include more gallery space, a 220-seat auditorium and rooftop garden.
For the first time, several of the mansion’s second floor rooms will be open to the public. They include former bedrooms, a study and breakfast room. They will allow for more objects to be displayed from the permanent collection.
Construction is slated to begin in 2017 and completed in early 2020.
The museum houses old master paintings, European sculpture and decorative arts. It was established by industrialist Henry Clay Frick.
