Ex-wife of B.C. homicide victim says man conned her; both appeared on Dr. Phil

SURREY, B.C. – A man murdered in Surrey, B.C., is well known to police on both sides of the Canada/U.S. border and he even appeared on a popular TV show about women who marry impostors after his ex-wife claimed she lost $50,000 to him.

Sheri Brown says she was informed by police that her ex-husband, Timothy Szabolcsi, had been found dead in his South Surrey home on Friday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team’s Sgt. Bari Imam says Szabolcsi was from Manitoba and has a history with police involving frauds.

The same man was convicted of felony theft in Texas for stealing thousands from the healthcare system while impersonating a doctor.

Brown says she Googled Szabolcsi and had him checked out by police before the couple married in September 2012 but within two weeks she knew something was wrong because he suddenly had no job and she had to pay for the wedding and honeymoon.

After kicking him out, she filmed an episode on “Dr. Phil” in September 2013, but says despite her experience, nobody should meet an end like Szabolcsi.
