B.C. energy future not black and white but shades of grey: minister

VANCOUVER – Energy Minister Bill Bennett says the B.C. government remains committed to clean energy though the future of the province’s power grid is not black and white but shades of grey.

Bennett was speaking today at the annual general meeting of Clean Energy BC.

The minister says the clean energy sector has grown significantly under the Liberals but he admittedly had to harken back several years for good news.

Bennett highlighted the potential for mining and liquefied natural gas, and referred to the massive Site C hydroelectric project as the elephant in the room.

On Site C, he expects the government will know in September whether the dam will receive federal and provincial environmental assessment approval, and he’ll have to make a recommendation to cabinet.

Bennett says a decision has not been made yet and it will not be an easy one for cabinet.
