Report: Frank Lampard to join Melbourne City in Australia’s A-League

MELBOURNE, Australia – England midfielder and Chelsea great Frank Lampard will reportedly join Spanish striker David Villa in a guest stint at Australian club Melbourne City next year.

Villa has already confirmed his short-term deal and the Daily Mirror reported early Tuesday that Lampard will join him as both build up match fitness ahead of moves to the new Major League Soccer franchise New York City. Both the New York and Melbourne clubs are affiliates of Premier League champion Manchester City.

The newspaper said a deal has been agreed, though the clubs involved are yet to formally confirm it.

Lampard’s former Chelsea teammate Damien Duff has already signed a one-year deal with Melbourne City.
