Buffalo Bills’ Marcell Dareus gets September trial date for car accident charges

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is scheduled for trial in September on charges filed after a crash that police say happened during a street race.

Dareus was in town court in the Buffalo suburb of Hamburg on Tuesday when a judge set Sept. 9 for a nonjury trial.

He’s charged with misdemeanour reckless endangerment after crashing his 2012 Jaguar into a tree on May 30 while racing a teammate. The 24-year-old also was ticketed for several traffic violations, including taking part in an illegal race.

The accident happened about a month after Dareus was arrested in his native Alabama and charged with possession of synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia. His lawyer has said there are plea discussions in that case.

Dareus has yet to publicly address the latest charges.
