Highway 3 reopens near Osoyoos after fiery crash sparks roadside blaze
OSOYOOS, B.C. – Wildfire crews wasted no time dousing an aggressive brush fire sparked by a crash involving two trucks in the Boundary region of southern B.C.
RCMP Const. Kris Clark says the collision occurred Wednesday just before 5 p.m. when a transport truck hit a loaded logging truck on Highway 3, nine kilometres west of Osoyoos.
Both trucks burst into flames, and the fire quickly charred several hectares of grassland, threatening one home.
Air tankers, a helicopter and two initial-attack crews tackled the blaze from the ground and the air, containing and quenching it before any property was damaged.
Clark says one of the truck drivers was injured in the crash and remains in hospital in Kelowna, but is expected to recover.
Highway 3 was closed for several hours but reopened early Thursday morning, and Clark says the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
