Cold weather to continue this weekend in the Okanagan

It’s turning out to be a cold February in the Okanagan.

Environment Canada meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau says it doesn’t look like a return to normal temperatures will anytime soon, as the Okanagan will receive another shot of cold air on the weekend following the passage of a weak front tomorrow, Feb. 8.

Over the longer term, temperatures are expected to moderate a bit before more cold weather is a possibility later in the month.

Today, Feb. 7, in the Okanagan expect increasing cloudiness with a 60 per cent chance of flurries this afternoon and a high of -8 Celsius. Windchills will range from -19 C in the morning and overnight to -11 C in the afternoon and evening. Periods of snow are expected overnight with accumulations of two centimetres.

It will be mainly cloudy tomorrow with a 40 per cent chance of light snow. Tomorrow’s high will be -5 C with wind chills of the -14 C in the morning and -7 C in the afternoon.

More snow is expected overnight tomorrow with a low of -10 C. Snow accumulations are expected to be relatively light, with two to four cm falling in the south end of the valley, less in the north.

On Saturday, the skies will clear with a high of -6 C and an overnight low of -16 C.

Sunday will see increasing cloudiness with a high of -8 C and a low of -15C.

The cold weather continues Monday with a high of -7 C under a mix of sun and cloud, and an overnight low of -12 C.

Normal temperature this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of around 1 C and lows of about -6 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014.
