Mandel, Insight Productions produce new online stand-up comedy competition
TORONTO – Howie Mandel and Insight Productions are teaming to produce a new online stand-up comedy competition show.
“Joke or Choke” will premiere July 15 on CTV Extend, the broadcaster’s free digital hub.
The pilot will be hosted by Jonny Harris, the Pouch Cove, N.L., comic and actor who has appeared on “Murdoch Mysteries” and “Hatching, Matching and Dispatching.”
He will attempt to guide comics through three rounds, in which they’ll have to win over judge Mark Forward (“Mr. D”).
In the first episode, competing comedians include Steve Dylan, Amanda Brooke Perrin, Daniel Woodrow and Fraser Young.
In a news release, Mandel praised Canada’s “great tradition of stand up.”
“Stand up comedy was and always will be my true love,” he said. “I’m proud to be part of ‘Joke or Choke.’”
