GANANOQUE, Ont. – Via Rail train service is “gradually resuming” on the Toronto to Montreal and Toronto to Ottawa routes after a shutdown Friday.
Via spokeswoman Mylene Belanger says an early-morning departure from Toronto to Montreal today was delayed for nearly three hours but passengers are now on the move.
Service was shut down Friday after a CN freight train car derailed and hit a Via Rail passenger train east of Kingston, Ont.
Via says the freight train car struck the passenger train’s locomotive and a few cars about seven kilometres from Gananoque, Ont.
The Via train was travelling from Ottawa to Toronto with about 300 people on board. One passenger reported a minor injury.
Buses replaced train service on the two routes for the rest of Friday.
