Spice Kingdom Egyptian basil recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination

OTTAWA – A recall order has been issued for Spice Kingdom brand dried Egyptian Basil due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The affected product, bearing Lot No. 4685/E, was sold in bulk to restaurants and food service businesses in Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba.

There are no reports any illnesses linked to the product, which is imported by Shah Trading Co. Ltd. ofScarborough, Ont..

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is monitoring the recall.

The Salmonella bacteria can cause serious and even deadly infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

In otherwise healthy people it can cause high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
